have been going to this Japanese/Korean restaurant once a week for the past three weeks... a friend introduced this Korean dish to me and I keep ordering it cuz it's so good. It's called Dul Sot Bee Bim Bap. Sounds funny but trust me it's yum.. It's got rice, veggies, an egg, beef and you put your own hot sauce into it. Try it before you judge it. So far everyone I've told about it has loved it too... mmm... hopefully tonight's meal will last me until I can have it again next week.
moving is tiring... I spent more than 45 minutes manually pumping up an air mattress yesterday and when it was like 90% complete, my mom phones me to tell me that I could have used a hair dryer! Oh well, at least my legs got a good workout from using that manual foot pump...
Sleeping on an air mattress is an interesting experience though... it's not really quite as firm...and it takes a while to find a comfortable position and on top of all that, everytime you move it makes this brrrrt noise... so it sounds like you're flatulent....I told my roommates that the mattress was making the noise - not quite sure if they believe me though...
Moved out of my Loo house today... it was so fast and rushed that there wasn't really a time to reflect upon all that I was leaving... the memories and the mildew. The first I'll treasure and the second, well that I'll celebrate over never having to see again.
One of the biggest exams of my life is looming over me as its date draws closer and closer. I know it's not the end of the world if I don't pass it this year, and I'll just try again next year, but I'm going to be very upset with myself if I fail because I didn't do everything that I could possibly have done. And right now I don't think I'm doing everything that I could possibly do... I feel so behind... sigh... lotsa prayers please. (On that note, as a sidenote, I still haven't heard whether I've passed my program yet. Everyone keeps telling me that no one fails but I'm still very very nervous waiting for those final grades.)
And lastly, my sister left the house in a hurry today for an important lunch meeting (and to see a certain someone after
) before I even knew she had left. So I didn't have a chance to hug her and say goodbye because I won't be seeing her likely until the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. So Bern if you're reading this, here's your <hug>!
First, let's get the "bad news" over with - thus we start with the rant:
Have you ever, when driving, been sitting in traffic in the one lane that everybody seems to want to get into? And you having been the good diligent driver entered that lane properly a long time ago and have been waiting patiently for your turn to turn right/left or exit... And along come these drivers, these annoying, rude, selfish, pushy, inconsiderate, idiotic, (I'd use some more colourful words to describe them if it weren't against my policy to do so) who were WAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind you and decided to try and sneak ahead of the drivers who have been patiently waiting in the lane for their turn by driving onto the shoulder and trying to force-sneak back into the lane much further ahead, or driving in the lane beside the desired lane and trying to force-sneak their way back in. I don't know who I detest more. The drivers who do the force-sneaking or the idiots who let them into the lane! Because of both of these groups of ppl, we took nearly an hour to travel the one block that separated us from the entry driveway of Cirque du Soleil tonight. My dad was using our big Windstar to block ppl that were trying to sneak in ahead of us and beeping at them loudly and continuously. My sister was yelling out her frustrations at all the cars. The rest of my family chose to remain silent. And me? I just kept reading my book...that was the only thing keeping me from sticking my head out of the window and yelling at the other cars. I've never swore or made a .. uh.. rude hand gesture at other drivers before but tonight I came real close... thank goodness for that book...
Okay now the rave:
HOW ON EARTH did Melly fall asleep during Cirque du Soleil? I saw the Alegria one tonight with my family and it was amazing....I didn't really know what it was and maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much more because I didn't really have any great expectations so if you want to be the same, don't read this section of today's posting... Cirque du Soleil is the like the modern-day circus. It combines some of the more prevailing elements of the traditional circus (that is, animals are no longer involved) and some of the more dazzling abilities of today's modern gymnasts, combined with beautiful costumes, sets, makeup, lights and a little bit of technology to create a wonderful show. A friend gave me the opportunity a while ago to watch his Cirque du Soleil Alegria videotape and now I'm so glad I didn't because to see it in person is so much better. We sat in a big top-like tent with pretty good seats... the stage is in the middle so you can see pretty much anywhere you sit...and there was a Masters of Ceremonies type of character, except he had a humongous belly and hunchback (both fake) and there were three clowns who were kind of amusing who came out between acts to entertain the crowd. Throughout nearly all of the performances, my sister and I kept involuntarily blurting out "Whoa" and "wah" and "ai yah" as we watched them .... it was so cool... the trapeze artists, the trampoline artists, the clowns, the combination uneven bars and trapeze act, the singing and the music, the strong man, the contortionist, the gymnasts with the hula hoops and that stick that has a ribbon attached to it that you see at all the gymnastic meets and Olympic events, the balance beams, the fire baton man, the man with the red ribbons/sashes, and so much more. Alegria was my first Cirque du Soleil show and I think one of the most simple and popular... now I want to go see the other Cirque du Soleil shows..like the one in Vegas which I hear has water and even better costumes. If you like watching gymnasts and/or circus type acts, you'll love Cirque du Soleil, the acts are amazing and inspiring. Kind of makes me which I'd tried harder in gymnastics class when I was young... hahaha... almost...
Finally the big thank you!
I just got my graduation present from my mom and my sister and I'm so happy!!! I got a digital camera!!! Yippee! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you... I'd been eyeing them for quite some time now, especially since I found out they were discontinuing APS film and since I started playing with Melly's camera. Now I can take stupid pictures all day long like we did in Loo this year with Melly's camera and not worry about wasting film, etc.. Plus I can erase all those pictures I look bad in...hehe...I have a feeling the camera will be shared a lot though within the family but I think that'll be okay... as long as it's taken care of properly...Wowee.. the day started like any other day, with me dragging myself out of bed to go the library in Loo for another day of writing practice exams and debriefing them and ended so great with a awe-inspiring Cirque du Soleil performance and a digicam to boot! Now all I gotta figure out is how I'm going to come down off cloud nine and fall asleep...
Ebert & Roeper gave Ella Enchanted 1 thumb down, A Cinderella Story 1 thumb down and Princess Diaries 2 two thumbs down! How could they! I always knew critics' ratings were useless!
It's very strange how many noises a house can make that you never notice until you're the only one home. I have to stop watching scary movies.
It's sad when you're the first one there when the library opens and the last ones out when it closes.
It's even sadder when your most pressing and important weekend activity is shopping for a calculator and cue cards for studying purposes.
It's so good when you go into a movie with no expectations and find yourself laughing out loud, your heart warming with all the sweet moments and your eyes tearing too.. then coming out of it wishing to see it again....
It's even more good (rather it's even better) when you watch another movie that same night with still no expectations and once again find yourself laughing, heart-warming and tearing.....
Overall, my entire weekend can be summed up in one simple equation: 1 wonderful viewing of Princess Diaries 2 (love her hair and dress in the coronation scene) + 1 itis-inducing Japanese all-you-can-eat dinner + 1 wonderful viewing of Why Me Sweetie (the title loses something in the translation - it's something like 50 First Dates) + 1 beautiful day watching softball + 1 nice shopping trip = 1 very lovely weekend.
Went to Taste of the Danforth this weekend with my girls and other regular folk (BAG et gfs, Yeung boys, etc.). did the smart thing this time and took the subway the whole way there instead of walking part of the way....
Highlights: Lamb Rosemary pie (mmm....), nibbling on all of Age and Kev's food (pad thai, gyros - better than Chin's, spinach/feta pastry (not really a spanikopita), watching friends do the Pepsi taste challenge and hearing May yell out "Ew this one sucks" upon tasting what turned out to be the Pepsi product, hahahaha... and of course, the greatest highlight of all, getting another peacock feather!
Low-lights: not having Mel and Bren there ![]()
Wow... what a weekend... it started off with a wonderful dessert night with some of my girls... finally got to try this "loh yeh" that Fi has been going on and on and on about
... not bad.. pretty good... it's kinda like shaved ice that comes with either a mango base or a coconut base and is served with your choice of a variety of fruits... quite yum... Then we were off to Deerhurst for the long weekend. The theme of the weekend was indulgence...ask me in person if you want to know why I say so...it was crazy nuts as my housemate would say. Our last dinner we indulged ourselves so much...so much good food... but I won't go into another spiel about food as I always seem to do in these blogs.. but again, ask me in person if you want to hear....let's just say, you could have rolled me home....
We went kayaking, went on a ride on a sail boat/yacht whatever the term was.. it was quite relaxing... swimming, saw the resort's show (not bad) and of course, played tennis. One thing I learned? My sister and I are definitely no Venus and Serena Williams or Maria Sharpovas or even Anna Kournikovas.. watching us play is like watching a comedy of errors... hahaha....
Anyway, all in all the weekend was great but it's back to the real world again.. nose to the grindstone and all that.. but oh, before I forget, a friend told me that this guy we used to go to junior high with is now some film celebrity or something in Indonesia...http://okan.indonesiaselebriti.com ... anyone read Indonesian?
